Auction Report: De Orbe Novo Collection @ Bloomsbury

Today's sale of Bruce's McKinney's De Orbe Novo Collection: Exploration in the New World 1492-1625 (previewed by McKinney here) seems to have gone very well. All but 4 of the 81 lots sold, and most were hammered down at least within the estimate range (with many lots surpassing the estimates). Six lots made $100,000 or more:

- Lot 67. Samuel de Champlain, Les Voyages ... (1613). Sold for $650,000 (est. $250,000-350,000).

- Lot 69. Samuel de Champlain, Les Voyages de la Nouvelle France ... (1632, second issue). Sold for $160,000 (est. $70,000-100,000).

- Lot 2. German edition of the Nuremberg Chronicle (1493), colored. Sold for $150,000 (est. $100,000-150,000).

- Lot 79. Sir Francis Drake, The World Encompassed (1628). Sold for $150,000 (est. $40,000-60,000).

- Lot 50. Linschoten's Itinerario (1595-6). Sold for $120,000 (est. $100,000-150,000).

- Lot 26. A complete set of las Casas' Indian Tracts. Sold for $110,000 (est. $30,000-50,000).

I'm sure Mr. McKinney will offer details on the sale, so we'll look forward to those.
